About Me
After 33 years of teaching first graders, I'm finally retired and getting to turn my attention to my other life-long love...crafting! It's always an adventure.

As my business name, Wood-n-Stitches, implies, the bulk of my handmade crafts are folk art paintings on a variety of wooden items and soft sculpture folk art dolls, Santas, snowmen, etc.

My five sisters and I frequently vacation together. Through the years these trips have gradually changed from crafting trips (my love) to antiquing jaunts (their love). If you can't lick 'em...join 'em. So I began to scour the antique stores for old things into which I could breathe new life. Bowling pins and old soda bottles became Santas, snowmen, raggedy dolls or angels ( some sporting wings crocheted by a little 100 year old saint from my church). Hand-embroidered pillowcases were made into lovely Victorian dolls. Coffee pots were transformed into decorative art. Even old plates and platters became hand-painted treasures. Cast-off cabinet doors were spruced up with flowers, grapes, etc. to become art for the walls of customers' homes. Antique quilts and linens were used to dress my hand-sewn dolls. I've also recycled old books into seasonal decor and lightbulbs into Christmas ornaments. In addition to using recyclables, I have a carpenter friend do custom woodcutting for my holiday blocks, hunting signs, and frames for my original 3-D paintings on canvas.

If all this gives you the idea that I'll paint on almost anything, you've got the picture. When my kids were still at home, they were afraid to sit still too long for fear I'd paint and sell them!
